4 Carolina Panthers players that must be re-signed urgently this offseason
By Jason Huber
Frankie Luvu – Carolina Panthers OLB
Signed as a role player during the previous offseason, outside linebacker Frankie Luvu turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises on the Carolina Panthers.
Luvu has a great preseason and despite never becoming a full-time starter, he filled in nicely when asked upon and was also a great piece on special teams, receiving All-Pro votes for his contribution in this particular area of play.
The Washington State product wasn’t even guaranteed a roster spot before the season. One year on, he might’ve earned himself a bit of money.
The Panthers shouldn’t throw the bag at him considering he’s never been a full-time guy. But they should make a good pitch for Luvu to stay with the team because he proved to be very valuable.
Pro Football Focus gave him an 84.8 grade overall this past season and in Week 17 when he started, Luvu compiled nine tackles and three tackles for loss during a relentless performance at the New Orleans Saints.
There probably weren’t too many teams who really took notice of Luvu’s value, so it’s a real possibility that he decides to come back to Carolina and there might be a starting opportunity awaiting him depending on what happens in terms of recruitment.
