5 Panthers players who could be sacrificed for a franchise QB in 2022

Robby Anderson – Carolina Panthers WR
Again, this is a situation that comes with some financial concerns. But moving Robby Anderson in an attempt to fix the quarterback position once and for all shouldn’t be ruled out entirely.
The wide receiver was red-hot in 2020 en route to securing a new two-year extension, which was swiftly followed by a disappointing campaign for Anderson given what was expected. He was a shell of his former self, made some key individual errors, and was an increasingly frustrated figure throughout.
Any anticipated chemistry with quarterback Sam Darnold carrying over from the New York Jets didn’t come to fruition. Anderson would be a free agent right now had the Carolina Panthers waited a little longer before giving the player a bigger financial reward, which is something they’d probably like to have back in hindsight.
Anderson has talent. Things just didn’t come together last season and this could lead to another team taking him on as part of any potential trade.
If this scenario becomes a reality, then a pre-June 1 trade would save the Panthers around $9.1 million regarding Anderson’s deal. This would increase to $13 million after the June 1 date, so it could be a sacrifice worth making when one looks at the bigger picture.
Going for broke in pursuit of someone like Deshaun Watson or Russell Wilson sounds nice, but the Panthers neither have the draft capital or financial resources to contemplate this. However, that hasn’t stopped David Tepper before and it’s unlikely to do so again.
