Carolina Panthers could target Sony Michel

Sony Michel has the chance to land his second Super Bowl ring in four seasons when the Los Angeles Rams clash with the Cincinnati Bengals next week. The running back has played a key role in the team’s success this year, which was absolutely essential after promising youngster Cam Akers went down with a long-term injury that kept him out until the postseason.

Michel might not be the flashiest running back operating in the NFL today. But he is dependable, experienced beyond his years, and knows how to make the most out of opportunities when they arrive.

His prowess in short-yardage situations could make him a potential option for the Carolina Panthers. A potential pairing of Michel and Christian McCaffrey would make a massive difference, even though it would likely spell the end of any substantial touches for Chuba Hubbard in the process.

One potential obstacle that could emerge from this is Michel’s demands. According to Spotrac, the former Georgia star is set to command an annual salary of $5 million on a two-year, $10 million deal, which might be a little pricey for the Panthers considering their cap constraints and the need to prioritize other positional groups.

It’s something to explore, at the very least. Michel is one of the better free-agent options available, although an extension in Los Angeles cannot be ruled out despite Akers showing exceptional promise.
