Carolina Panthers could target Marlon Mack

It’s highly likely that Marlon Mack and the Indianapolis Colts will come to a mutual parting of the ways in free agency. The emergence of Jonathan Taylor left the veteran on the outside looking in during the previous campaign and he was seldom used after no deal was reached to move the player before the 2021 trade deadline.

Mack’s had his fair share of injury problems in recent years. But his production when healthy could see a team like the Carolina Panthers take a chance on him as part of a multi-back rotation next season.

The South Florida product is a strong runner who has emerged as a short-yardage and red zone threat during his career. Mack also has proven production in a professional environment, which is something the Panthers will no doubt value considering what’s at stake for head coach Matt Rhule and his staff next time around.

Whether Mack’s financial demands complicate such a move from coming to fruition is unclear at this juncture. However, this represents a solid landing spot for the player and especially if Christian McCaffrey is forced to miss even more time for whatever reason in 2022.

Running backs have a short shelf-life in the NFL. They are cast aside more than almost every other position and Mack’s next move has to be the right one in order to avoid obscurity moving forward.
