Stephon Gilmore wants to play for the Carolina Panthers

Playing closer to home clearly had a substantial impact on Stephon Gilmore in 2021. His trade to the Carolina Panthers allowed the cornerback to spend more time with his family who resides in the area, which was a breath of fresh air after years plying his trade up north with the New England Patriots.

Gilmore has made enough money throughout his career. The prolific veteran has young children that he wants to see grow up and it’s clear from his comments throughout the offseason that Carolina is where he wants to be.

This is half the battle, in all honesty. Having players that want to be on the Panthers rather than throwing money at a problem that might not get solved.

It’s a mistake often made across the league. But the Panthers should not look a gift horse in the mouth where Gilmore is concerned and give the player what he wants – a new contract that could enable him to finish his career at a place he calls home and starred in college with the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The NFL is a business and sentiment rarely comes into the equation. However, if someone with Gilmore’s reputation decides to stay then it might just convince other veteran players to join the organization for a crossroads campaign in 2022.
