Carolina Panthers should regret not drafting Amon-Ra St. Brown
As stated previously, the Carolina Panthers got nothing from Terrace Marshall Jr., and Shi Smith was brought along gradually ahead of what will hopefully become a 2022 season with more involvement for the sixth-round pick. However, had they waited a little longer to select someone like Amon-Ra St. Brown, it could have been a more dependable option.
St. Brown was selected by the Detroit Lions at No. 112 overall and coped remarkably well with a primary role last season. He rarely looked overawed and although it came with the odd mistake along the way, there was far more good than bad where the former USC star is concerned.
The wideout managed to bring in 90 receptions for 912 receiving yards and five touchdowns as a rookie. A far cry from what the Panthers got from Marshall and this offseason is one of great importance for the player if he wants to establish himself and generate more in the way of targets.
It will be interesting to see if St. Brown can build on this immensely encouraging campaign. Being something of a surprise is one thing, but doing it when teams know full-well what you’re capable of separates the great wide receivers from the good.
This was an absolute steal from the Lions, who were far more competitive than their record suggests under Dan Campbell and another strong offseason could lead to brighter days for Detroit’s long-suffering fanbase in the not-too-distant future.
