5 free agents who’d fill instant needs for the Carolina Panthers in 2022

Which upcoming free agents could fill instant needs for the Carolina Panthers as they look to get themselves back on the right track in 2022?
A frenzied free agency period is about to get underway for the Carolina Panthers. One that could end up determining just how much longer Matt Rhule will remain as head coach.
The former Baylor man looked like a defeated figure at times in 2021 as the team lost 12 of their final 14 games. But David Tepper is willing to give his appointment one final opportunity to steer this sinking ship back to prominence.
We haven’t heard much from Tepper or Rhule this offseason. The head coach was also conspicuous by his absence at the 2022 Senior Bowl, which could mean the balance of power in terms of recruitment has shifted towards Scott Fitterer and Dan Morgan.
This would not be a bad thing by any stretch. However, with limited funds to bolster problem areas in free agency and one draft pick in the first three rounds, the Panthers have a complex situation to get through in the coming weeks.
Without further ado, here are five upcoming free agents who would fill instant needs for the Panthers if acquired.

Carolina Panthers could target Pat O’Donnell – P
Perhaps an overlooked need for the Carolina Panthers is finding a reliable punter in 2022 and beyond. Joseph Charlton was released after failing to build on a promising rookie campaign and although Lachlan Edwards wasn’t terrible, those in power should seek a better option if available.
Pat O’Donnell has been an ultra-consistent punter for the Chicago Bears after becoming a sixth-round selection in 2014. He averaged 46.2 yards-per-punt in 2021 and could have a few more good years left before hanging up his cleats.
Much will depend on the money involved and whether the Bears opt to go in a different direction. But this would be a tremendous addition to the Panthers.
