Carolina Panthers could target Anthony Harris – S

It’s easy to forget that Anthony Harris was a Pro Bowl-caliber safety once upon a time. The veteran enjoyed a phenomenal season for the Minnesota Vikings in 2019 that saw him get the franchise tag, but things did not go entirely according to plan the following campaign and he eventually joined the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.

Harris had his moments in 2021. He remains a commanding presence against the run and although things could be better from a coverage standpoint, there is plenty to suggest he would be a great fit on the Carolina Panthers alongside Jeremy Chinn.

This is a positional group that needs reinforcement during the offseason. If Juston Burris and Sean Chandler depart as expected in free agency, then it becomes more pressing.

With financial resources tight, landing someone like Marcus Maye or Marcus Williams might be pushing things a little. However, if Harris becomes available at the right price, it’s something to consider.

If the Panthers went in this direction, then it would provide Phil Snow’s defense with a productive veteran that could assist in the short term. It might also enable the team to select a promising young prospect via the draft and allow the incoming college recruit to develop at his own pace.
