Carolina Panthers should have hired Mike Kafka
Mike Kafka is the Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks coach and was the passing game coordinator this past season. He’s worked closely with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid over the last three years and this alone qualifies him for the job far more than anything that Ben McAdoo has done throughout his career.
Right now football is trending in one direction when it comes to offense. Find young coordinators who have been around great coaches and can think outside the box.
Look at the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams as recent examples. Both faced off in the NFC Championship game a step away from the Super Bowl and these teams are also led by offensive minds who started out like Kafka, working in a smaller coaching role on a great staff.
Kafka played the quarterback position and understands the modern NFL offense – giving him a unique perspective having played and spent time with Mahomes and Reid.
While it would be difficult to work miracles with Sam Darnold, Kafka will certainly elevate any quarterback you give him. He understands the position and the mental outlook required to play the toughest position in football.
Kafka would have been a sign that Matt Rhule was thinking outside the box and ready to put his team back on track.
