Wouldn’t this be something?
Tre Boston made no secret of his pleasure at Steve Wilks returning to the Carolina Panthers once the announcement was confirmed. The safety may have been released by the team prior to the 2021 season, but it’s clear he still has a deep love for the organization and wants them to succeed even though he is no longer around.
At least for now, anyway.
Boston and Wilks have a close association. It’s also worth remembering that the safety was on the Arizona Cardinals in 2018 and judging by his recent comments to Jonathan Alexander of the Charlotte Observer, thoroughly enjoyed his time working with Carolina’s latest addition to the coaching ranks.
"“Amazing hire in Wilks. I’ve never had a coach so detailed into his craft with such professionalism, yet player-driven. The way he’s able to coach and teach the game mentally and physically to each individual is what makes him so special.”"
Even though this would be an incredible story, Wilks would need some significant stroke to pull this off. Boston has been one of the more vocal former Panthers players when it comes to voicing displeasure about Matt Rhule, so it could lead to an awkward reunion if this scenario became anything more than an idea.
That being said, the Panthers need assistance on the backend if Juston Burris and Sean Chandler leave in free agency. Although he didn’t get any interest in 2021, this would provide Carolina and Wilks with a sense of familiarity.
