John Miller – Carolina Panthers OG

The Carolina Panthers might have given John Miller another chance to prove his worth in 2021. But the veteran offensive lineman was an absolute catastrophe almost from start to finish.

Miller’s lack of consistency coupled with a lackluster attitude when things went wrong meant the former third-round pick emerged as a real weak link that didn’t go unnoticed by opposing defensive schemes. His production in pass protection was abysmal and concluded with the player giving up no fewer than seven sacks on the way to a lowly 52.1 grade from Pro Football Focus.

What comes next for Miller is unclear. It’s highly unlikely the Panthers will give him another reprieve and judging by his performances this season, another team might decide to take their chances elsewhere when he hits the free-agent market.

Perhaps the most glaring takeaway from Miller’s time with the Panthers wasn’t his torrid run of form on the field, but rather one notable press conference that came with the infamous “sacks happen” quote.

This was a damning indictment of the player’s lack of accountability. Something that was prevalent from head coach Matt Rhule and enveloped almost the entire roster when things started to spiral out of control.

Miller’s time in Carolina won’t be remembered in a good light. And he has nobody to blame but himself.
