Carolina Panthers restructure Taylor Moton

  • 2022 cap saving – $11.37 million

Even though the offensive line was an absolute catastrophe in 2021, there was one shining light of consistency that the Carolina Panthers should build around. Taylor Moton’s production at the right tackle spot was of high quality once again, even if he did have some poor moments at times.

Moton penned a bumper new deal last year after going on the franchise tag. This was an absolute necessity and if the Panthers can put the right pieces around the Western Michigan product, it might see his overall contribution improve as a result.

The former second-round selection is the team’s highest cap number in 2022. However, if those in power can restructure this deal, then it could mean an extra $11.37 million to spend elsewhere.

This might be seen as kicking the can down the road, so to speak. But the Panthers are entering a critical campaign where they have to get back on track and put themselves in playoff contention with jobs on the line.

Moton’s money wouldn’t be impacted in the slightest. It just means that base salary is converted into a signing bonus and gives Carolina some breathing space in the short term.

If this can help the Panthers in pursuit of landing a quality free agent or two for their offensive line, then Moton would no doubt agree.
