Donte Jackson could join the Kansas City Chiefs

There aren’t many holes across the Kansas City Chiefs, who came within seconds of reaching yet another Super Bowl before falling to an overtime defeat against the Cincinnati Bengals. However, if the team wants to continue becoming big players in the postseason, focusing on improving their options at the cornerback spot should be one of their top priorities in the coming weeks.

Kansas City gave up 251.5 passing yards per game last season, which was among the league’s worst. If stud safety Tyrann Mathieu departs in free agency, then the secondary is going to need reinforcing in a big way with just $3.72 million in salary-cap space before sacrifices are made.

This obviously makes things difficult. But the allure of joining Patrick Mahomes and a roster loaded with talent could be an intriguing one for Donte Jackson providing the money is right.

Jackson might have to make a concession financially, one suspects. However, the prospect of joining a leading contender capable of hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy in 2022 could sway the cornerback if he cannot work things out with the Carolina Panthers.

Carolina has let a number of top cornerbacks leave in their prime under previous regimes. Whether Matt Rhule and other primary decision-makers carry on this trend with Jackson is still hanging in the balance.
