5 potential free-agent replacements for DaQuan Jones in 2022

Carolina Panthers could sign Jarran Reed
- 2021 team – Kansas City Chiefs
Acquiring Jarran Reed was expected to make a significant difference for the Kansas City Chiefs in their pursuit of reaching yet another Super Bowl. The defensive tackle’s explosiveness and ability to generate pressure complemented what the AFC juggernaut already had, but it ended up being an up and down year for the player who could now be searching for a new home.
Reed has all the physical skills in the world. Even if things didn’t quite come together on the Chiefs and considering he’s still 29 years old, he is a player with bounce-back potential if Kansas City decides to go in a different direction.
The former second-round pick accumulated 2.5 sacks, 43 tackles, two forced fumbles, two tackles for loss, 12 quarterback hits, and 19 pressures in 2021. However, Reed’s struggles against the run were well documented and played a leading role behind his poor 46.7 grade from Pro Football Focus.
Scott Fitterer is well aware of Reed having been around the player during their time together with the Seattle Seahawks. He would fill a definite need for the Carolina Panthers if DaQuan Jones does take his chances elsewhere and the general manager’s previous relationship with the Alabama product is something else working in the team’s favor.
Things are also tight financially in Kansas City, so they might come to the conclusion a younger, cheaper option is needed.
