Carolina Panthers should target Landon Collins

Finding a productive partner for Jeremy Chinn is something the Carolina Panthers have to do if Juston Burris and Sean Chandler don’t come back in free agency. The Southern Illinois product made a smooth transition to the backend in 2021, but there are some who question whether this is where he’s best suited considering the impact made as an outside linebacker during his rookie campaign.

Regardless of where Chinn is deployed, the Panthers need some additional depth within their secondary and one potential cap casualty who could be looking for a new home is Landon Collins. The former second-round pick out of Alabama stayed free from injury with the Washington Commanders in 2021, but his level of production didn’t quite deserve the $16.2 million cap number next time around.

Releasing Collins ahead of time would save the Commanders around $6.6 million, which is something they might consider to boost other areas of the roster. If this scenario comes to fruition, Carolina should take a long look at someone with three Pro Bowls and one All-Pro selection to his name.

Things haven’t gone according to plan for Collins since signing his megabucks deal in Washington. But that doesn’t mean he cannot be a great pickup for the Panthers if the organization decides to cut their losses.

And who knows, he might end up being the final piece of the jigsaw on defensive coordinator Phil Snow’s unit.
