Carolina Panthers could sign Mitchell Trubisky

Picking up another reclamation project would be a major gamble by the Carolina Panthers after moves for Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold failed to meet their respective targets. However, if they did choose to go down this avenue once again, then Mitchell Trubisky is a name that will likely come up in any discussions.

Much was made of the Chicago Bears selecting Trubisky at No. 2 overall, overlooking the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson in favor of the former North Carolina standout. Hindsight is a wonderful thing to have, but this set the organization back years and eventually saw the team surge up last year’s draft to take Justin Fields.

Trubisky was released and subsequently signed a deal with the Buffalo Bills to be Josh Allen’s understudy. Taking himself out of the firing line for a season to listen and learn might bring about an upturn in production if he’s given another starting chance elsewhere once free agency begins.

That is no guarantee, obviously. But with this year’s quarterback class not deemed the strongest, teams like the Carolina Panthers could take their chances with a veteran rather than relying on a college prospect who might take some time to develop.

Again, this is a good spot for Trubisky, who will fancy his chances of dethroning Sam Darnold -another top-three selection that has yet to meet the level required.
