Carolina Panthers could sign Mike White (RFA)

This would be a shot in the dark, one suspects. Mike White hit the national headlines with a stunning performance for the New York Jets in the absence of Zach Wilson this season and although it proved to be fleeting, there might be a team or two keeping a close eye on his restricted free-agent status this offseason.

It was an underwhelming start to life in the NFL for White – a fifth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys who didn’t make much of an impression right out of the gate. This all changed in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals, where the signal-caller completed 82.2 percent of his passes for 405 yards and three touchdowns during a stunning 34-31 win in the face of a team who would eventually secure the AFC Championship.

Signing another quarterback from the Jets would be met with derision after Sam Darnold flattering to deceive with the Carolina Panthers. However, White is confident in his own abilities and could make his presence felt with a view to starting somewhere down the line.

Of all the names on this list, White might be the most unlikely. And there is every chance the Jets keep him around in case Wilson suffers another injury during his sophomore campaign.

One thing is for certain, the primary decision-makers in Carolina cannot get their next quarterback wrong. Anything less than a home run will not be tolerated by team owner David Tepper and if Matt Rhule cannot conjure something up, it might cost him his job.
