Baltimore Ravens could target Christian McCaffrey

The AFC is rapidly becoming an unforgiving place and those who stand still will get left behind. This is something the Baltimore Ravens found out to their cost in 2021, although much of the team’s failings can be excused thanks to an unbelievable bad run of luck with injuries that hindered their attempts to make a postseason splash.

Baltimore does have high hopes for J.K. Dobbins, but there’s just no telling how he’s going to come back from a long-term injury. Landing Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers via trade would give them the league’s best running backfield alongside Lamar Jackson, a former NFL MVP quarterback who has the added incentive of a bumper new deal with a strong season next time around.

The Ravens’ run-first approach is something that would work in McCaffrey’s favor. They adopt a multi-back scheme to keep everybody fresh, which is something the former first-round pick would undoubtedly relish after the last two years.

Much would depend on the compensation involved. Carolina would probably be looking to get their Day 2 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft back in return, even though general manager Scott Fitterer still believes McCaffrey can be the foundation to further success.

Still, everybody has a price. This bears more significance when one considers the Panthers’ current status and lack of available draft capital.

Trading McCaffrey seemed almost unfathomable once upon a time. But that is no longer the case and there’s just no telling how unstoppable the Ravens would be in this scenario.
