5 Panthers players who don’t deserve another season in 2022
By Dean Jones
Dennis Daley – Carolina Panthers OG
The Dennis Daley experiment was an intriguing one once upon a time. A big starting opportunity awaited the South Carolina product in 2020 before injury struck, which clearly put a substantial dent in his progression and the offensive lineman hasn’t been quite the same since.
Despite Daley’s consistency doing nothing to suggest he’s a capable interior protector, the Carolina Panthers utilized him when healthy in 2021. It came as no surprise to see him struggle and his infamous “not my job” quote will be how the player is remembered if the team parts ways during the offseason.
Carolina didn’t spend much in the way of draft capital on Daley, who was a sixth-round pick and more of a development project than anything else. However, there comes a time when a fresh start is needed for all parties.
That time has arrived.
Whether Daley will get another chance elsewhere is undetermined. But the Panthers need some significant upgrades across their protection and cutting the player saves them around $2 million in cap space that could be better spent elsewhere.
There is no room for sentiment in the NFL. And this should be a pretty easy decision for Carolina to make when it comes to the crunch.
