What upcoming decisions should be among the easiest for the Carolina Panthers to figure out during an important 2022 free agency period?

After another season that flattered to deceive, the Carolina Panthers are about to embark on a critical offseason period for the franchise. One that could ultimately determine whether this group of players and coaches can get on the right trajectory when competitive action resumes in 2022.

The Panthers made a good start to this important time during the preparation period by signing outside linebacker Frankie Luvu to a two-year extension that will pay the Washington State product $5 million next season. No more than the player deserves after contributing a significant amount from a rotational role.

This was one of the easiest decisions Carolina will make, in all honesty. But there are a few more no-brainers that could come to fruition in the not-too-distant future.

With this in mind, here are five easy decisions the Panthers must make during 2022 free agency.

Decision No. 1

Carolina Panthers must not extend John Miller

The Carolina Panthers gave John Miller a one-year extension in 2021 despite his relative lack of production. Considering his dismal run of performances last season, offering the veteran offensive lineman another reprieve is simply out of the question.

Miller was lacking in both consistency and effort throughout the campaign, which should be his last in Carolina. The Panthers need significant upgrades across their offensive line in the coming weeks and the former third-round pick is sure to be looking for a new home.

This is a sad end to Miller’s time in Carolina. One that will be remembered more for his “sacks happen” quote than his performances on the field.
