Carolina Panthers could target Malik Willis

After a stunning display of athletic attributes at the 2022 Senior Bowl, it didn’t take long for respected analysts up and down the country to start mocking Malik Willis to the Carolina Panthers. The Liberty product has arguably the highest ceiling of any signal-caller entering the NFL this year and although it could be 2023 before he sees the field, this could be the long-term option fans have been looking for.

Willis has a previous connection to Panthers legend Cam Newton and initially followed in his footsteps at Auburn before moving to get additional playing time. He has an absolute cannon for an arm and also boasts a rare ability to conjure up exceptional plays almost out of nothing.

There are some concerns regarding Willis’ decision-making. And he won’t have things all his own way running the football against faster opposition at the next level.

Much like the situation with Kenny Pickett, this wouldn’t be a quick fix for the Panthers. That could sway Matt Rhule in a different direction given the head coach is entering the 2022 campaign firmly on the hot seat.

With high risk comes a high reward. Willis is the ultimate boom or bust prospect and if the Panthers were better positioned, then he might just be the guy.

However, that is simply not the case. And those in power have nobody to blame but themselves.
