4 things Scott Fitterer should know after one year as Panthers GM
By Dean Jones
What things should Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer be fully aware of after his first year in the role?
It certainly hasn’t been dull for Scott Fitterer during his first year as general manager of the Carolina Panthers. A whirlwind interview process saw the respected front office figure emerge from nowhere to become the team’s choice, which came following a hugely successful stint as an influential figure within the Seattle Seahawks over two decades.
To say it’s been a baptism of fire for Fitterer would be a massive understatement. There seemed to be a strong working arrangement between the new arrival and Matt Rhule, with the impression made during the 2021 NFL Draft leaving plenty of reasons to be encouraged.
However, this did not amount to any sort of progression from a results standpoint and if things continue in the same fashion in 2022, then it will undoubtedly force team owner David Tepper into some significant changes.
Without further ado, here are four things Fitterer should know after Year 1 with the organization.
Thing No. 1
Carolina Panthers are desperate for OL help
This is something Scott Fitterer freely admitted in his exit presser. But it cannot be stressed enough how much the Panthers need a makeover on their offensive line.
Outside of right tackle Taylor Moton, there is no member of the roster that is guaranteed a starting spot next season. Even though that could change if Brady Christensen and Deonte Brown make some notable improvements during a critical offseason period for both players.
Fitterer and other important decision-makers should have already begun forming a plan about how to improve this area of the field. Something that has to involve better choices in free agency and the draft this time around.
