Which wide receivers could the Carolina Panthers potentially try and acquire when the all-important free agency period begins in 2022?

Last season is best left forgotten as far as the Carolina Panthers offense is concerned. Poor quarterback play was exacerbated by an even worse offensive line and also resulted in unmet potential within a stout wide receiver room.

Robby Anderson was a disappointment after putting in a career year in 2020 and signing a multi-year extension. While we cannot necessarily blame the wideout for his average depth of target being halved, we can blame a 48.2 percent catch rate on the second-year Panthers player.

Drops became a real problem for the former Temple standout and there seemed to be a clear lack of confidence in Anderson as the season went on. This boiled over into multiple sideline arguments between him and other members of the offense.

Second-Round pick Terrace Marshall Jr. was essentially an afterthought in his rookie season as even when the LSU product made it onto the field the ball never went his direction. Even when it did, there were problems getting separation and consistently being in the best place for whoever was throwing the ball on that day.

With some development, the team could have a solid contributor in Marshall. But there is a long way to go before that is a realistic expectation.

The rest of the WR room is a mixture of bubble veterans that played themselves into contracts and young guys not given much of a chance. Good players, but not anything game-changing to mention.

On a positive note, D.J. Moore is still making his case to be considered one of the top wideouts in the NFL after yet another 1,000-yard season with subpar play under center. Let alone the inconsistency and how hard it is to develop a rhythm with multiple signal-callers.

With that said, the young superstar needs help in a bad way, someone to take the pressure off. Preferably a player that can win contested balls in the red zone, something the Panthers have mightily struggled with given the team has no reliable option at tight end.

This team desperately needs a No. 2 option to spread the field and take attention. Someone capable of feasting on cornerbacks and winning those one-on-one matchups consistently.

Without further ado, here are six free-agent wide receivers that the Panthers must consider in 2022.
