6 wide receivers the Carolina Panthers must consider in 2022 free agency

Carolina Panthers must consider Michael Gallup
2021 stats (Dallas Cowboys):
- 35 receptions
- 445 receiving yards
- 2 touchdowns
The forgotten man in the Dallas Cowboys offense had a forgettable 2021 after multiple injuries including an ACL tear and is looking to bounce back in 2022. Michael Gallup is that guy no one remembers but everyone misses when they aren’t there.
Just take a look at how the Cowboys struggled after Gallup went down for proof of how vital the speedy receiver was to the team’s success.
Gallup is mostly seen as a deep threat and that isn’t necessarily an incorrect evaluation. But he is much more than that. However, even this danger alone is enough to open things up on the other side of the field.
Respect the speed and get burned by D.J. Moore, don’t respect the speed and get burned by Gallup. It’s a true pick your poison moment that would be a tremendous prospect for the Carolina Panthers to consider.
While Gallup offers no upgrade in the size department, the skill is worth that trade-off.
In every game this season there seemed to be a highlight-worthy moment from Gallup. Some game-altering play that not many players could be capable of.
The amount of late-game sideline grabs over defenders or back shoulder catches with sure hands that Gallup had in 2021 is a testament to this. A sideline master like that is something every team needs in today’s NFL.
Gallup is essentially a lateral move from a role perspective but a definite upgrade in the ability to perform that role over Robby Anderson. If the Panthers want to go with the same type of scheme in 2022 then he is the perfect player for the job.
That torn ACL and a lack of press coverage could mean a cheap price for Gallup. This would be a true steal should the Panthers win what could be a slow bidding war.
