Carolina Panthers trade offer No. 3
If the Carolina Panthers are intent on making a huge splash in the quarterback market, they don’t have much in the way of draft capital to put themselves in a strong position. Although acquiring someone like Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson is unlikely, team owner David Tepper’s influence could dictate an attempt is made, at the very least.
Daniel Jeremiah’s report that the New York Jets and New York Giants were willing to act as middlemen for any team – trading draft picks for quality veterans – is something that won’t have gone unnoticed by the Panthers. If they could put a package together that resulted in another top-10 selection – then this could be coupled with No. 6 overall for another potential trade.
Again, this will not be easy. But sacrificing Robby Anderson, Shaq Thompson, and Yetur Gross-Matos for a first-rounder might just tempt the Jets – who need proven players capable of turning around the franchise.
Thompson is coming off the best season of his career and Gross-Matos demonstrated enough promise in 2021 to suggest a significant leap in Year 3 of his professional career. Just how well this would go down with the team’s fanbase is unclear – but it cannot be ruled out entirely.
It would be a shame to see Anderson’s time in Carolina end in this manner. But the NFL is a cutthroat business and it’s pretty evident Tepper is willing to do whatever it takes to build a contender.
