Carolina Panthers must consider Marcus Maye

Yes, another New York Jet could potentially be landing with the Carolina Panthers. Marcus Maye is experienced and plays tough football on almost every down.

He’s coming off of an ACL tear that abruptly ended his 2021 season. Maye was also averaging one or more interceptions a year before the recently concluded campaign, so he has a knack for the ball in coverage, which is a strong component to playing the safety spot.

The Panthers have brought in a lot of former Jets players the past two seasons, with Robby Anderson, Sam Darnold, Frankie Luvu, and Pat Elflien all joining the fold under the Matt Rhule regime.

Some have been successful and others have been on the negative side of the spectrum. Luvu exploded on the scene in 2021 and Maye could very well be in the same boat if he’s signed by the Panthers and his recovery is going according to plan off the field.

With Maye coming off of an ACL tear, a one-year deal could be the way to go. The Panthers and the player could agree upon a prove-it year deal providing there is mutual interest.

A team-friendly contract is very well on the table for Maye. Something that could really help Carolina in the short and long term.
