6 safeties the Carolina Panthers must consider in 2022 free agency
Carolina Panthers must consider Marcus Williams
Marcus Williams is a guy who is highly familiar with the Carolina Panthers. He didn’t only face the team twice a season, but he found ways to disrupt the offense for good measure.
Since Williams entered the league, he has been consistently good for the New Orleans Saints. But their current financial predicament indicates it will be extremely difficult to keep the player around this offseason.
The Saints are currently $74 million over the salary cap. This means there is no way the Panthers foe could hold onto Williams unless some significant sacrifices are made elsewhere along the way.
Williams will undoubtedly require top dollar, as he should. The Panthers may not be able to afford him, but it’s another plus if the Saints don’t have him and something that would give Carolina another massive boost in an NFC South division that will also be without legendary quarterback Tom Brady in 2022.
It’s unlikely the Panthers could land Williams. But it never hurts to attempt to get him.
He would be a home run signing, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. However, the price could be too steep with the Panthers’ current salary cap and needs elsewhere that would arguably come above getting Jeremy Chinn a long-term partner.
