Carolina Panthers should monitor Antwan Collier

Another prospect that caught the eye at practice and during the HBCU Legacy Bowl itself was Antwan Collier. The athletic safety transferred from Central Florida to Florida A&M to secure more playing time, which was a good decision based on his level of production in 2021.

One area where Collier excels is in coverage. The defensive back has some nice quick-twitch speed and anticipates things extremely well from the backend, which also comes with a capability to cover efficiently from the slot should the opportunity arise.

The Carolina Panthers could be on the lookout for safety help this offseason if Sean Chandler and Juston Burris don’t come back in free agency. Should the coaching staff move Jeremy Chinn back to the second level, it surges up the team’s list of priorities.

Collier wouldn’t be classed as a Day 1 starter by any stretch of the imagination. But if the Panthers are looking for a depth chart piece to bring on gradually that could also assist on special teams, then it is a definite possibility.

It was a solid HBCU Legacy Bowl experience for Collier. However, what comes next will be equally as important and there will be more than a few NFL teams now watching the player’s progress to pile some extra pressure on his young shoulders.
