3 HBCU Legacy Bowl standouts the Panthers should monitor in 2022

Carolina Panthers should monitor Marquis McClain
After a seven-catch, 84 receiving yard outing at the HBCU Legacy Bowl, Marquis McClain did more to help his stock than most. The wide receiver is a big body who uses his frame exceptionally well, which could come in handy for any team looking for a progressive pass-catching presence across the middle or in the red zone.
Depending on what happens with Robby Anderson and the development of Terrace Marshall Jr., the Carolina Panthers could fall into this particular category. Although spending early draft assets on this area of the field would be strange considering the needs elsewhere.
McClain is a fringe draft prospect at present despite applying himself well at Southern after transferring from Auburn. There is even some chatter among scouts that the player could fill out and become an NFL tight end, according to Charles Davis of the NFL Network.
Having multiple uses is only going to assist McClain’s chances of making a go of things at the next level. Teams are always willing to gamble on high physical traits and providing the wideout improves his route-tree, he is someone to watch.
The HBCU Legacy Bowl is a fantastic new initiative that received notable support from the likes of Doug Williams and Patrick Mahomes. The influence with HBCU’s is obviously growing thanks to Deion Sanders and others, so this event might become more significant in the years to come.
