Carolina Panthers must consider Jason Peters

At 39 years old, Jason Peters is still holding his own in the NFL. The veteran isn’t what he used to be by any means, but would be a huge improvement on what the Carolina Panthers have been rolling out there for the past few years.

The Chicago Bears were sixth in the league in pass block win rate last season. The addition of Peters, who posted a very solid PFF grade of 77.5, certainly helped.

At this stage in his career, it’s going to take quite the effort to convince Peters to sign with Carolina. One suspects he wants to compete for a Super Bowl to end his time in the league and there’s no way the Panthers brass can say with a straight face that they can offer that at this point.

If it were to play out in Carolina’s favor, Peters would be a serviceable starting left tackle for next season and would serve as a bridge for the Panthers until they figure out what their long-term options are at the position.

He also shouldn’t be very expensive, which is another positive factor that cannot go overlooked considering Carolina’s current cap predicament. Peters might have one good season left in the tank after a glittering career that’s resulted in two All-Pro selections and nine Pro Bowl appearances.
