4 ways Ben McAdoo can improve the Carolina Panthers offense in 2022
By Dean Jones
How can new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo improve the Carolina Panthers offense during a crucial 2022 season for the franchise?
One of the biggest sacrifices made by the Carolina Panthers during a season of turmoil in 2021 was the firing of Joe Brady. The former LSU passing game coordinator came into the organization with a glowing reputation, but failed to mesh well with Matt Rhule and was removed from his duties midway through the bye week as a result.
After an exhausting search without a “rockstar” to speak of, the Panthers appointed Ben McAdoo as the team’s new offensive coordinator. Although his stint as head coach of the New York Giants was a failure, his reputation as a solid coach is renowned and this was one of many hires with NFL experience – which seems to be a premise for Rhule keeping his job.
McAdoo has his work cut out, to put it mildly. The Panthers were abysmal on offense due to poor quarterback play, a porous offensive line, Christian McCaffrey’s injury problems, and no reliability in the passing game outside of stud wideout D.J. Moore.
With this in mind, here are four ways McAdoo can improve the Panthers’ offense in 2022.
Way No. 1
Carolina Panthers must get TEs more involved
One area where the Carolina Panthers have failed to produce over the last two years is within their tight end room. Greg Olsen’s departure left a gaping hole that has yet to be filled, so it’s vital Ben McAdoo comes up with a better formula regarding production from this positional group.
There is a chance Carolina bolsters their options with Ian Thomas out of contract. Although there remains some hope Tommy Tremble can become a complete weapon with a little more improvement from a pass-catching standpoint.
Whether it’s Tremble or someone else, McAdoo has to make tight-end influence a priority to give this offense another big shot in the arm next season.
