What are some reasons that might suggest the Carolina Panthers are not going to be an attractive destination for pending free agents in 2022?

The busy period of free agency is less than a month away and the Carolina Panthers have some huge upcoming decisions to make. Plenty of top stars are on the lookout for new deals and there is also the small matter of fixing some clear position groups that have held the organization back over the last two seasons.

Whether the Panthers can drastically turn things around in such a short space of time during the current offseason is debatable. But make no mistake, the pressure is on and any further failings regarding personnel evaluation are going to come with some landmark changes when the 2022 campaign comes to a conclusion.

This is a monumental period for the franchise. One that could really go either way and those in power don’t have much leeway after a series of flawed decisions that came back to haunt them in 2021.

However, things might be even more difficult than anticipated. Here are four reasons why the Panthers are not an attractive free-agent destination this spring.

Carolina Panthers don’t have much money

Considering the current state of the Carolina Panthers, one suspects they would have to shell out a little more than most to get their desired targets. If a veteran free agent is unsure about a particular destination, then adding some extra dollars always helps sway things in your favor.

The Panthers have just $17.82 million in spare cap space right now. Although that is likely to go up once restructures are agreed upon and sacrifices made given the urgency to get things correct in the coming weeks.

Samir Suleiman will be at the heart of this and is highly skilled in cap management. But whether the Panthers can free up enough space to convince the right sort of quality to join them is another matter.
