Carolina Panthers could draft Ahmad Gardner

One or two respected draft analysts have mocked Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner to the Carolina Panthers, which would be an absolute bombshell at No. 6 overall just one year removed from using their first-rounder on Jaycee Horn. In truth, the organization should look at strengthening other areas and especially if the offensive line isn’t significantly bolstered during free agency.

However, ruling out Gardner entirely would be foolish. General manager Scott Fitterer is always keen to take the best player available regardless of need, so if that happens to be the Cincinnati product, then he will not hesitate.

Gardner is a physical specimen at 6-foot-3 who makes life extremely difficult for opposing wide receivers. His time with the Bearcats saw him quickly emerge as one of the best man-cover prospects in college football and this was enhanced by a memorable 2021 campaign that saw the small program attain a shock playoff place.

Such was the standard of Gardner’s production, he did not give up more than 13 receiving yards on any given play and did not concede a touchdown catch during his entire time at the collegiate level.

Should the Panthers lose both Stephon Gilmore and Donte Jackson in free agency, then this proposition becomes even more likely. And there is just no telling what a cornerback tandem of Gardner and Horn could do long-term.
