Which 2022 draft prospects on defense should the Carolina Panthers have a close eye on during the NFL Scouting Combine?

No fewer than 324 incoming hopefuls will look to enhance their draft stocks at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine. This event makes a welcome return to the evaluation process this year after COVID-19 restricted the 2021 showcase, with the Carolina Panthers and others across the league descending on Indianapolis for what promises to be a fascinating week.

Rumors will fly and discussions will start regarding any potential trades before the draft. The combine is normally the place where the offseason begins to accelerate and Scott Fitterer’s “in on ever deal” mentality could see some further trade movement should the right fit come along.

Although all eyes will be on whether the Panthers can improve the quarterback position or strengthen the offensive line, there might be a couple of defensive positions that require attention depending on what happens in free agency with the likes of Stephon Gilmore, Juston Burris, Donte Jackson, Jermaine Carter, Haason Reddick, and DaQuan Jones – all starters from the 2021 team.

With this in mind, here are seven prospects on defense the Panthers should watch closely at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine.

Carolina Panthers should watch Bryan Cook

Finding a long-term partner for Jeremy Chinn at the safety position should be among the team’s top defensive priorities this offseason. The Carolina Panthers haven’t been able to rely on Juston Burris and Sean Chandler for health and production reasons, so it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see both players moved on and free to test the free-agent market.

Considering money is tight, going down the draft route should be considered. Bryan Cook’s exceptional 2021 campaign makes him a prospect of significant interest heading into the NFL Scouting Combine.

Cook was a key cog in the Cincinnati Bearcats’ memorable run to the college football playoffs. He boasts three-down capabilities to impact proceedings all over the field and is someone Carolina should be monitoring this week.
