5 under-the-radar prospects Panthers should watch at 2022 combine
By Dean Jones
Which 2022 draft prospects going seriously under-the-radar should the Carolina Panthers watch with interest at the NFL Scouting Combine?
One of the most anticipated dates of the offseason calendar is finally here. The Carolina Panthers have sent a strong representation to Indianapolis for the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, with 324 prospects from the college ranks taking part in testing and interviews in the hope of hearing their name called later this year.
This is an important time for the Panthers, who are coming off another five-win campaign with plenty of doubts about the current direction of the franchise. They currently have just one selection in the first three rounds following trades for Sam Darnold and C.J. Henderson, so general manager Scott Fitterer needs to hit big and get creative to put his team in the best possible position.
Although under-fire head coach Matt Rhule is not scheduled to speak at the combine, the former Baylor man will also be in attendance to see for himself which prospects might be of interest.
With this in mind, here are five under-the-radar prospects the Panthers should watch closely at the NFL Scouting Combine this year.
Prospect No. 1
Carolina Panthers should watch Sean Rhyan
It’s no secret that the Carolina Panthers need help at every offensive line position outside of right tackle this offseason. Finding the correct pieces will not be easy – or cheap – in free agency, so expect this area to be addressed early and often when it’s time for the organization to select its next batch of college recruits.
One lineman who has some real talent is Sean Rhyan, although he’s been somewhat overlooked compared to other prospects within a deep class. His power and athleticism defy belief for a man his size, which is something the Panthers could certainly do with judging by their efforts in 2021.
Arm length could indicate Rhyan is best suited to one of the guard positions once he gets to the next level. But fortunately for Carolina, they are in desperate need at either spot and the UCLA product should be kept under close observation at the NFL Scouting Combine.
