4 quarterback trades the Panthers should avoid at all costs in 2022
By Dean Jones
There might be a temptation to make another trade at the quarterback position, but some players should be avoided by the Carolina Panthers at all costs.
For the third straight offseason, the Carolina Panthers could be on the lookout for another starting quarterback. When one examines the wreckage of Matt Rhule’s first two years as head coach, a distinct lack of stability under center coupled with some dismal personnel moves have clearly held this team back from making the required strides under his leadership.
This has to change.
And quickly.
Sam Darnold failed to deliver on a promising start following his trade from the New York Jets. His decision-making was erratic, footwork suspect, and confidence waned enough to make it a possibility the Panthers search for alternative options in 2022.
Rhule is under an untold amount of pressure to find the right solutions in the coming weeks after team owner David Tepper decided to hold firm with the guy he gave a seven-year, $62 million contract to. Although he is reportedly embarrassed by this according to Joe Person of The Athletic, pride got in the way and the former Baylor man now has one more shot at saving the sinking ship in Carolina.
Another incorrect call at the most important position on the field is not going to go down well. It might even cost Rhule his job when it’s all said and done.
With rumors circulating about the Panthers making a splash in the trade market, it promises to be an interesting few weeks ahead. But if they had any sense whatsoever, Carolina should avoid these four signal-callers at all costs.
