Carolina Panthers should avoid Jimmy Garoppolo

Almost from the moment that the San Francisco 49ers gave up a substantial amount of draft capital to surge their way to No. 3 overall and select Trey Lance, the writing was on the wall for Jimmy Garoppolo. The veteran quarterback was solid if not spectacular for the team in 2021 en route to yet another postseason appearance, but there might not be a better time for the organization to trade the signal-caller and transition to the former North Dakota State standout.

It’s easy to forget that Garoppolo was the heir apparent to Tom Brady once upon a time. It reportedly took the legendary player going to New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft to get his understudy traded despite the obvious wishes of Bill Belichick.

There will be a strong market for Garoppolo if the Niners start taking legitimate calls. Considering the urgency for the Carolina Panthers to make some big-time strides in 2022, they might end up making an offer.

This is something they should think twice about. Garoppolo has a supreme record as a starter, but there are also some clear failings and unless Carolina makes some significant improvements to their offensive line, this trade has the potential to blow up in their faces.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Garoppolo is about to undergo shoulder surgery that is expected to keep him out until the summer. This alone should be a red flag for the Panthers and they should look at alternative options.
