Which potential quarterback upgrades on Sam Darnold could the Carolina Panthers be targeting that are not being talked about enough?
The Carolina Panthers have made it clear that they are ready to move on from Sam Darnold according to widespread media reports after the 2021 season came to an unsuccessful conclusion. This leaves the organization with a massive void at the most important position in sports – not a recipe for success in a league where a bad signal-caller usually means a top-10 draft pick.
There is a multitude of different options for the Panthers to pursue this offseason. They could trade for one of the rather expensive franchise quarterbacks supposedly on the market, draft one with the only selection Carolina has in the first 100 picks, or gamble on a free agent in the hope they could improve matters under center.
Neither of these seems entirely cohesive to a team that already struggles with depth. Especially when the No. 6 overall selection is one of the few assets the Panthers have left following a series of miscues regarding personnel.
So what options remain?
There are a lot of traditional and obvious routes for the Panthers could take, but could we be missing on potential targets that they might look at?
With this in mind, here are three under-the-radar quarterbacks that Carolina might consider if the opportunity arises at some stage during a critical offseason period.
