3 under-the-radar quarterback trades for the Carolina Panthers in 2022
Carolina Panthers could trade for Tyler Huntley
Tyler Huntley started as an unknown last year before an injury to Lamar Jackson thrust him into the spotlight where he took full advantage. While obviously, no one on earth is going to replace the former NFL MVP, the young backup did a pretty good job, showing a similar athletic profile and grit during his time under center.
Huntley played in seven total games and made four starts during the season, finishing with a record of 1-3. But he showed a natural ability to navigate an NFL offense.
The signal-caller played well during his five-game stretch with a passer rating of 77.9, a 66.1 completion percentage, and five total touchdowns. The major flaw in Huntley’s play was his turnovers.
He had six total giveaways in just five games. This is obviously less than ideal when attempting to move on from a turnover-prone quarterback the Carolina Panthers already possess in Sam Darnold.
Huntley certainly showed enough during his starts to believe he can be developed into a major dual-threat quarterback that can start and compete in this league. The question would be whether or not this coaching staff can progress him to hit that high ceiling he showed in his smaller sample size.
Carolina could acquire Huntley through trade as he is a restricted free agent and the Baltimore Ravens will likely be looking for multiple mid-round picks for the talent. Could the Panthers consider giving up a player and next year’s third for him? It might be one potential solution to their quarterback problem.
