Carolina Panthers should consider Kwon Alexander

Although leaving the New Orleans Saints for an NFC South rival might not be something Kwon Alexander would consider, there is a high chance he’ll be testing the free-agent market given how dire things look from a salary-cap standpoint in the immediate aftermath of Sean Payton’s departure.

Alexander is still performing at a productive level and at 27 years old, could have his best days ahead of him. He is a former Pro Bowler during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and caught the eye during 12 games with the Saints – eight of which he started.

This won’t have gone unnoticed by the Carolina Panthers, who could significantly benefit from Alexander’s experience and playmaking ability at the second level. Obviously, this would come down to money, but the player might not be too loyal compared to others considering he only spent just over a season and a half in New Orleans.

Keeping Alexander healthy is sometimes a concern. But it’s hard to look at this candidate and not think he’d be an upgrade on anything Carolina’s churned out at the position since Luke Kuechly’s glorious stint with the franchise.

There are far worse avenues the Panthers can go down. Whether Alexander considers this a viable fit at this stage of his career is another matter.
