Carolina Panthers met with Matt Corral

Being the only quarterback on this list that the Carolina Panthers did not have the opportunity to look at during the Senior Bowl in February, and not being able to throw at the NFL Scouting Combine due to an injury suffered during the Sugar Bowl, Matt Corral has a lot to prove leading up to his pro day.

Some things he does not have to prove is toughness, grit, and competitiveness as his decision to play in the same bowl game he was injured in was seen as ill-advised, but Corral wanted to compete regardless of potential damage to his draft stock, and he does not regret that decision at all.

That competitive edge was something that helped him propel his play to another level this year for Ole Miss, putting up a career-best season with 31 touchdowns to only five picks. His growth regarding accuracy throwing the football, decision making, and mechanics was very noticeable in his tape as he guided the Rebels to a 10-3 record.

Corral has a quick release when he delivers the football. This helps him to get the ball out quickly in RPO packages and under pressure. The signal-caller also does a good job of changing his arm angles to get the ball out from multiple angles should he not be able to manage that traditionally.

His arm strength is not by any means elite, but it is certainly sufficient for the NFL. Corral is able to use his arm to deliver deep balls to hit receivers accurately in stride and give them room to work.

While he is no means an elite athlete, Corral does have to be accounted for in the run game, whether that be RPOs or maneuvering outside of the pocket. The prospect showed college football that he was a ground threat, scoring a career-high 11 rushing touchdowns and accumulating more than 600 rushing yards, making a valuable dual-threat piece.

A lot of where Corral will go will depend on how he interviews at the combine, and how he puts his talents on display during his pro day. Could Carolina be blown away in the interviews and take the leap to make him their next franchise quarterback?
