5 dream free-agent targets for the Carolina Panthers in 2022
By Dean Jones
Brandon Scherff – OG
Strengthening the offseason line is an absolute must for the Carolina Panthers this offseason. The organization has to put better players around Taylor Moton and it’s crucial that whoever gets the gig under center has enough time in the pocket to go through progressions and ease stress under new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.
Addressing this via the draft is a solid option to have and it does appear to be a strong class. However, if the Panthers want some immediate assistance then landing a stud veteran in the free-agent market is also something that should come up for discussion.
This isn’t normally easy, or cheap. But if the Washington Commanders let Brandon Scherff walk in free agency the Panthers should do everything in their power to sign the interior lineman.
Scherff is one of the league’s most elite guards with standout consistency throughout a glittering career to date. He is a former All-Pro and has no fewer than five Pro Bowl selections to his name, so there would be a massive queue of suitors if he were let go by former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera.
This signing would make an untold amount of difference. Scherff represents a monumental upgrade on anything Carolina currently has – someone that could sure things up in pass protection and open up holes in the run game.
