5 dream free-agent targets for the Carolina Panthers in 2022
By Dean Jones
Allen Robinson – WR
Finding some assistance at the skill positions should also be something the Carolina Panthers look to do at some stage this offseason. Christian McCaffrey’s unavailability and regression from Robby Anderson played a big role in things not quite going according to plan, even though the distribution at quarterback and a distinct lack of protection also played a leading role in these complications.
It remains to be seen whether talk of Robby Anderson being traded amounts to anything. There is also hope Terrace Marshall Jr. and Shi Smith can become more involved next season after becoming virtually anonymous during their rookie campaigns.
Finances might state this sort of move isn’t realistic. But pairing Allen Robinson with D.J. Moore would finally give the Panthers a dominant receiving combination.
Robinson had a down year with the Chicago Bears in 2021. However, it’s worth noting that they also had their problems at quarterback and the player has long wished for a move away from the organization, which placed him under the franchise tag last year.
It seems inevitable that Robinson and the Bears will go their separate ways in free agency. The former second-round pick out of Penn State has gone over 1,000 receiving yards three times during his career and could benefit enormously from a change in environment.
There will be more than a few contending teams that would love to have Robinson on board. So even if the Panthers did become keen, this might be a non-starter.
