Scott Fitterer’s statement regarding Haason Reddick hasn’t been that well-received within the team’s fanbase. Letting the outside linebacker test the free-agent market could be a mistake considering he’s achieved 23.5 sacks over the last two years, which would leave the Carolina Panthers without their most consistent pass-rushing weapon moving forward.

Roster building is all about making tough choices. Even though an extension hasn’t been ruled out entirely, Reddick is likely to get an offer the Panthers cannot afford when the free-agent frenzy gets underway.

Should Reddick leave, then it’s going to leave the Panthers short at the second level and especially if Jermaine Carter also heads out of the door. Finding a college prospect would be beneficial in the long-term, but time is a luxury Matt Rhule does not have anymore and if Anthony Barr hits the market, a call needs to be made.

Barr is out of contract and unlikely to be retained by the Minnesota Vikings, who are currently $14 million over the cap. Although the UCLA product has had trouble staying healthy over the last two seasons, his athleticism and ability to make plays are renowned, and this could be a tailormade replacement for Reddick if the price is right.

While the former first-round pick doesn’t have the same ability to generate pressure as Reddick, his all-around game is arguably just as good and Barr’s experience should allow for a smooth transition to Phil Snow’s defensive scheme.
