Indianapolis Colts

Considering what was expected of the Indianapolis Colts before the 2021 campaign, it was a major underachievement from the one-time playoff hopefuls. A complete capitulation in Week 18 against the Jacksonville Jaguars left them on the outside looking in and there are now some real doubts surrounding the future of quarterback Carson Wentz following another year of erratic production under center.

Another area where the Colts struggled that went relatively overlooked is generating pressure and making life difficult for opposing quarterbacks. They averaged just 1.9 sacks per game last time out – ranked No. 25 across the league – so even though finding an upgrade on Wentz will be the top priority, getting themselves a prolific pass-rusher should also be among the first things they covet in free agency.

Haason Reddick ticks all the boxes. The edge defender proved last season just what a devastating presence he is and if the Carolina Panthers let him speak with other teams, then Indianapolis should be among the first calling to see what the player wants from a financial standpoint.

One potential obstacle is the dead cap that would come by releasing Wentz. According to Over the Cap, cutting him loose would set them back $15 million whereas trading him would come with no dead money – although they might have to take on some of his contract to get a deal done.

This threatens to cloud the entire offseason in Indianapolis. But it would be a surprise if they didn’t show any interest in Reddick, at the very least.
