What are some pros and cons behind the Carolina Panthers potentially signing quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in 2022 free agency?

There appears little doubt at this point that the Carolina Panthers are looking to move on from Sam Darnold. The quarterback just wasn’t able to capitalize on an outstanding opportunity following his trade from the New York Jets, which leaves the organization going back to the drawing board during a pivotal offseason period in 2022.

The Panthers will remain diligent and aggressive if history is any indication. This means that landing a big fish in the trade market cannot be ruled out, but there is also the draft and free agency to consider, too.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Carolina has an interest in acquiring Mitchell Trubisky along with a host of other teams. The former No. 2 overall selection spent last season backing up Josh Allen on the Buffalo Bills and could get another starting gig next time around from a quarterback-needy team such as the Panthers.

However, there is an element of risk involved. Here are four pros and cons to the Panthers signing Trubisky when free agency commences.

Mitchell Trubisky could have learned a lot in Buffalo

Although things did not go as anticipated for Mitchell Trubisky with the Chicago Bears, the reports about how the signal-caller has conducted himself on the Buffalo Bills have been incredibly positive. This was probably the right move for the player to take himself out of the firing line for a season, learning from one of the best young players in the business on a daily basis.

Josh Allen has probably been a huge help for Trubisky, which is why there might be one or two teams banking on a complete rejuvenation. The Carolina Panthers are desperate for assistance immediately, which makes acquiring the former North Carolina standout a realistic proposition if they cannot find a willing trade partner.

Whether Trubisky’s time in Buffalo results in improved consistency under center is the big question. Nobody will know until we see him get a solid run of games in a different environment.
