4 pros and cons to the Carolina Panthers signing Mitchell Trubisky

Carolina Panthers cannot take on another reclamation project
It’s been a revolving door at quarterback since Matt Rhule became head coach. The Carolina Panthers released Cam Newton, decided to move on from Teddy Bridgewater after just one season, and gave up three draft selections over a two-year period to land Sam Darnold from the New York Jets, which was a significant gamble that didn’t pay off.
Obviously, having so much inconsistency across the offensive line hasn’t helped. But if the Panthers don’t hit a home run under center this offseason, the repercussions could be severe.
Another false move would undoubtedly spell the end of Rhule’s time in Carolina. This is probably why those in power are so keen to remove Darnold from the equation – even if finding a trade partner will be almost impossible.
That’s why signing Mitchell Trubisky – another reclamation project with a huge risk – is not a smart move at all. He might end up being an upgrade on Darnold, but there is simply no telling for sure after he spent most of last season holding a tablet or clipboard behind Josh Allen.
Rhule and the Panthers would need to be absolutely convinced Trubisky can get this organization trending in the right direction. If this is the call and it blows up in their face, then team owner David Tepper might be forced into a complete reset next time around.
