8 prospects surging up Panthers draft board after the 2022 Combine

Lewis Cine – S (Georgia)
If the Carolina Panthers had any sense, the primary decision-makers should also acquire a long-term safety partner for Jeremy Chinn this offseason. Juston Burris and Sean Chandler are both out of contract and unlikely to return, leaving the backend short of productive options unless Myles Hartsfield makes enormous strides in Year 3 of his professional career.
Much will depend on whether this need is addressed in free agency. But it might be cheaper for the Panthers to find a talented college prospect that can assist for many years rather than just a band-aid solution.
Although the Panthers don’t have a Day 2 selection right now, the production of Lewis Cine at the NFL Scouting Combine should make them sit up and take notice. The Georgia product was nothing short of outstanding for the Bulldogs in 2021 and could be among the first players at the position taken after Kyle Hamilton goes in the top-10 as expected.
Cine is a commanding presence against the run and seems to thrive in the big moments. His balance and anticipation are right where they need to be, and the player’s influence is also enhanced by a high football IQ and an ability to lead vocally and by example.
There aren’t many flaws to Cine’s game. If the safety can improve his timing and progress getting off blocks, someone will be getting a top player with Pro Bowl potential.
