2 pros and 2 cons to the Panthers trading Christian McCaffrey in 2022
What are some pros and cons to the Carolina Panthers potentially trading away running back Christian McCaffrey during the 2022 offseason?
The idea of trading Carolina Panthers star Christian McCaffrey has been floated around for several years. Now after only featuring in just 10 out of 33 games in the last two seasons, it seems as if we’re as close as ever to seeing a deal for the former All-Pro come to fruition.
According to CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, McCaffrey isn’t on the trade block but more than one team has reached out to the Panthers about their star player. The front office reportedly wants a first-round pick and other compensation for his services.
When healthy, McCaffrey is one of the best all-around players in the NFL. He’s a threat to defenses both on the ground and through the air and has eclipsed a historic 1000/1000 season in those respective statistics.
The problem for him is that he just can’t seem to stay on the field. Since the former first-round pick signed his big four-year $64 million contract back in 2020, McCaffrey has missed 23 out of 33 games.
It’s no shock that the Panthers front office might be feeling a little bit salty about this. Especially with all the talk involving not giving running backs big-time contracts. That crowd just has more ammunition when they look at what’s happened in Carolina.
Even if he’s got a massive contract and hasn’t been healthy, if – and it’s a big if – he can stay on the field, McCaffrey is one of the most dangerous weapons in the league. Something teams across the league are fully aware of.
With this in mind, here are two pros and two cons to the Panthers trading McCaffrey this offseason.
