A Christian McCaffrey trade could expand the offense

Beyond freeing yourself from the running back cap black hole, moving on from a player as talented as Christian McCaffrey doesn’t offer too many pros. However, on the flip side of losing one of the most dynamic weapons in the NFL, the Carolina Panthers would be forced to expand their playbook to include more than one individual.

When McCaffrey is healthy and in the game, there is no secret what Carolina is going to do with the ball. It’s going to him, one way or another.

Moving on would force this team to expand their playbook under new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. Moving away from the check-down offense of the past two years and actually pushing the ball downfield to playmakers like D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson.

Of course, Carolina would need to address the quarterback situation to accomplish something like this. A task the current regime hasn’t been able to accomplish just yet.

The past couple of seasons it seems like when McCaffrey has been out the offense has had no idea what to do with itself. As if a practice is just built around standing around and watching the running back go.

The Panthers need to transition away from being called the Carolina McCaffrey’s and back to being a proper football team. If McAdoo has a special plan to accomplish this with the Stanford product on board, I would love to see it. There’s no reasonable reason he should be getting as many touches a game as he does.
